Instagram Profile of the Month for January 2020

by Reema Farooqui

As a pearl enthusiast, I scour Instagram for striking images of pearls and pearl jewelry. However, quite often I come across an Instagram profile with so many outstanding images, I feel like reposting all of them.

My Favourite Profile

Therefore, one of my New Year’s resolutions as a blogger was to start a segment of my favourite profiles for every month. I started cataloging profiles from the start of the month and came up with several contenders. Nevertheless, the idea was to choose just one profile each month, thus the front runner for January, in my opinion, is Kojima Pearl. They have been in the pearl business for three generations, specializing in Japanese Kasumi pearls and other rare and unique pearls from all over the world.

The Kojima Pearl Instagram profile (@kojimapearl) was a visual treat. It was a catalogue of beautiful pearls and pearl jewelry, as well as a record of their trip to Japan to buy dazzling Kasumi pearls, plus their preparation for the upcoming Tucson Gem Show (where they will be exhibiting at GJX Booth 106/107). In some posts, we see pearls in a breathtaking mix of lustrous rainbow colours. In others, Kasumi pearls are being chosen deftly and with comfortable expertise. All in all, every post was engaging and very genuine, where the personality of this company and the people part of it, really shone through. Also, it made me wonder about what they would post next!

My Favourite Posts

I was captivated by every post they shared in January but here are some of the posts of Kojima Pearl that really struck a chord with me:

Pairs of Japanese Kasumi Pearls, being chosen and put together in soft afternoon light. The pairings are incredible, and the afternoon light really brings out the colours and overtones of the Kasumi pearls. Also, I love how the colours of the pearls are echoed in the soft pink colour of the lily flower and fresh green colour of the leaves in the background.

Oranges on the tree was an image I really loved. A little slice of life away from pearls. In the middle of winter, this image was refreshing and opened a window into their horticultural interests. And who doesn’t love the intense orange colour of an orange?

A collection of rare and unique pearls from all over the world. This image is as stunning as it is mind boggling. So many different colours, so many different shapes, so many different pearls!  You can see abalone pearls, Japanese Kasumi pearls, Tahitian pearls, South Sea pearls, Scallop pearls, Feather pearls and Natural pearls. Such a rich and varied collection, and I am sure each pearl has a fascinating story to tell.

So, Kojima Pearl was the Instagram profile that I followed most closely throughout January. What is your favourite Instagram profile?
