Sotheby’s Geneva is currently having their Fine Jewels Auction. Lots start closing on July 15th EDT There is an exceptional selection of fine jewelry pieces coming up for sale at this auction, including jewels from Chopard’s ‘Animal World’ collection, pieces from Van Cleef & Arpels as well as Tiffany & Co. and even a pair of exquisite earrings from Emmanuel Tarpin.
My interest, however, revolved around pearl jewelry pieces and I was amazed by the beauty and variety of the pearl jewelry lots. Initially, I wanted to write about each and every one of them, but then, I reluctantly pared it down to the ones that really won my heart.
Lot 424: Cultured Pearl and Diamond Necklace. Estimate 8,000-12,000 CHF
Multicoloured cultured pearls highlighted by small four-leaf flowers of brilliant cut diamonds, this is a gorgeous necklace which delivers on elegance and a touch of spectacular. The multicoloured pearls are graduated and round to near round. Their colours are fabulous, ranging from grey to gold, peacocks, silvery white and so many other shades in between. What is more, their lustre more than matches the sparkle of the diamonds. This is a special necklace-it does not skimp on anything and brings together the dazzle of diamonds with the magnificence of multicoloured cultured pearls. On a side note, I wonder how this necklace will look as a style accessory for men? Thoughts?
Lot 425: Pair of Cultured Pearl and Diamond Ear Clips, Mauboussin. Estimate 400-600 CHF
These are a pair of lovely Mauboussin ear clips with white cultured pearls set above a band of pavé set white diamonds. The pearls are lustrous and seem to have a lovely orient while the brilliant-cut diamonds appear lively and sparkling. These ear clips are just the thing someone starting a jewelry collection would like to have. This is a Mauboussin piece, so you can be sure of quality in terms of materials and craftsmanship. In addition, their size makes them ideal for day as well as evening wear. At the price they are being offered, they are a steal!
Lot 427: Pair of Natural Pearl and Diamond Ear Clips, 1950s, Sterlé. Estimate 35,000-55,000
With such well matched, natural pearls in terms of colour and size, these are an enchanting pair of ear clips. Designed as a knot set with baguette diamonds, the craftsmanship of these ear clips is spectacular! There is flow in the design which is so well captured in the turns and curves of gold, set with diamonds. The suspended pearls which dangle at the end of the knot, complete the impression of movement and fluidity. There is also something to be said about the lustre of these natural pearls-striking and sharp, the pearls seem to glow from within. These are remarkable earrings, in design and composition as well as in the exquisite beauty of the natural pearls.
Lot 580: Natural Melo Pearl and Diamond Pendant. Estimate 24,000-30,000 CHF
Designed as a basket or nest to hold the Melo pearl, this diamond pendant gives a wonderful 360 degree view of the Melo pearl it holds. Removable from the nest by loosening the toggle, the Melo pearl is outstanding in its colour and size. Weighing approximately 76.01 carats with a rare and coveted orange colour and beautiful flame pattern, this Melo pearl is lustrous like porcelain and absolutely fabulous!
