A necklace of white pearls… the epitome of simplicity and elegance. A necklace that exemplifies class and beauty. Just this one piece of jewelry can take your look to new heights of style and sophistication. With so many different pearls to choose from, I have often wondered why the allure of the white pearl necklace still continues for me.
While it was the gorgeous classic white Akoya pearls that made the white pearl necklace so popular, wearing beautiful, lustrous white pearls has never been more affordable than today. Thanks to the availability of reasonably priced fresh water pearls, white pearls are more popular than ever. On the total opposite end of the affordability spectrum, a growing appreciation of the stunning beauty and elegance white South Sea Pearls, has also given the white pearls a fresh gust of wind under their sail, and the classic white Akoya pearls are still being prized for their beauty and gemlike quality. Between Freshwater, Akoya, and South Sea Pearls, there are so many options to choose from. From the everyday chic of white fresh water pearls to the classic elegance of Akoyas and the sense of luxury of South Sea pearls, I truly believe that there is more than one white pearl necklace for every one.
Embracing different pearl shapes has changed the way pearls are seen. This is true for white pearls as well. Not every white pearl has to be perfectly round. The beauty of the different pearl shapes from baroques to drop to circled shapes and so many shapes in between means that there is a white pearl shape to suit every taste. While the graduated pearl necklace with round white pearls remains the classic beauty that it always has been, now I feel like experimenting in necklaces with the shapes. A necklace with drop shaped pearls or even a combination of baroques and drop in different sizes is where I am heading. With so many choices, the possibilities for white pearls necklaces are seemingly endless.
There are so many ways to wear white pearls. You can play around with length and have multiple white pearl necklaces, layering them from the classic choker all the way to a rope length beauty. Tin cup and wire wrapped necklaces are also something I love because they give such a delicate and graceful look, almost as if the pearls are floating on the chain. Sometimes just simply mixing naturally coloured pearls with white pearls can have a stunning effect. And don’t even get me started on the wonderful trend of adding silver and gold accents and gemstones to a white pearl necklace. The jewel colours of gemstones really play up the beauty of white pearls. There are so many different looks and styles with which to wear white pearls, why should the allure not continue?
