The Pantone colour for 2020 is Classic Blue 19-4052. This hue has been described as elegant due to its simplicity. It is a timeless colour, classic yet contemporary.
I find this colour to be a great choice for the year. It can easily be produced using plant-based dyes, and so gets full marks as far as sustainability is concerned. What’s more, it is a seasonless and genderless colour, so the creative possibilities are endless. What really intrigues me about Classic Blue is how it will go with pearls. I wonder if pearls can be paired with blue coloured gemstones to reflect the Classic Blue theme of the year?
Pearls and Classic Blue
I believe South Sea Pearls as well as Akoya Pearls will look lovely against a Classic Blue background. As far as Tahitian Pearls are concerned, the darker or more peacock pearls will probably look lovely, but it is the silver-grey Tahitians or an ombre arrangement of the pearls that will really shine against Classic Blue. The multicoloured Fiji pearls look great against any colour, and I feel Classic Blue will be no different. However, what will really stand out, in my opinion, will be the gorgeous Sea of Cortez pearls!
As far as freshwater pearls go, the whites and rose golds will probably look amazing but the pink, peach and lilac pearls (unless they are deep, rich shades) may be overpowered by Classic Blue.
There are so many pearls that may go well with Classic Blue, it is hard to list them all here. In the end, I think it is a matter of personal preference and taste.
Pearls and Blue Gemstones
However, where blue coloured gemstones are concerned, there are quite a few good choices. Blue Sapphires always come to mind first but the London Blue Topaz, Lapis Lazuli, Star Sapphires as well as Blue Kyanite also have rich and deep colours, nearly approximating Classic Blue in gemstones. These gemstones would pair very well with both saltwater pearls as well as freshwater, especially with white pearls. But pairing them with Golden South Sea pearls may be the making of a blue and gold statement piece in the Classic Blue year!
Jewelry for the Classic Blue Year
Many beautiful pearls and jewelry pieces would go marvellously with Classic Blue but here are four that caught my eye. I think they would be perfect with Classic Blue in every season, because to me these pearls and jewelry designs represent the very essence of this colour- traditional yet contemporary, elegant and very authentic!
Perlas Del Mar De Cortez is the only pearl farm in the world that produces the magnificent blue-grey hued Sea of Cortez pearls. Harvested from the Rainbow Lipped Oyster, the colours, shades as well as the overtones of the Sea of Cortez pearls are spectacular. This baroque Sea of Cortez pearl pendant is quite striking, especially with the shading of colours from Turquoise to blue to grey. I think it would really stand out against Classic Blue at any time of the year!
R.Simantov Fine Jewelry design and handcraft really exquisite fine jewelry pieces. This platinum ring features a lustrous baroque South Sea pearl and cabochon Sapphires in a vivid shade of blue. The blue overtones on the pearl seem to echo the intense blue colour of the Sapphires. Very intricately crafted, this gorgeous ring showcases how well Sapphires and White South Sea Pearls go together.
Marcharit Pearls supplies beautiful, sustainably cultured pearls to jewellers, designers and manufacturers all over the world. These Pink Gold Metallic Freshwater Pearls, with their outstanding lustre, would look stunning against Classic Blue and make a bold statement!
Blue Lark Creations design and handcraft Caribbean inspired jewelry pieces, and these grey Tahitian Pearl Cluster Earrings have all the right colours, shapes and textures for a combo with Classic Blue-London Blue Topaz, Opals and blue Akoya pearls!
To conclude, there is room for so much creativity in how Classic Blue can colour our lives in 2020, especially as far as matching or contrasting it with pearls of different colours is concerned. Which pearl jewelry would you like to wear with Classic Blue?
