Fabulous Jewels at Christie’s Jewels Online Auction

An exciting news for jewelry lovers all over the world is the upcoming Christie’s Jewels Online Auction. With more than 340 lots, there is a broad and varied selection of exquisite jewels. There are several exceptional pieces from renowned jewelers and jewelry designers like Bulgari, Chanel, Dior, Graff, Tiffany &Co, JAR and Cartier, to name just a few. The overall selection of items up for auction includes necklaces, bracelets, earrings, brooches, watches and so much more. Suffice to say, there is something to engage the different tastes and requirements of jewelry lovers, enthusiasts and collectors from all over the world.

Online bidding can be thrilling as well as very convenient. You can follow the bids as they happen as well as participate in the bidding from anywhere and at any time right up to the closing of bids. Bidding begins on 5 February at 10 a.m. EST. Lots 1 – 180 begin closing lot by lot on 12 February at 10 a.m. EST and lots 181 – 360 begin closing lot by lot on 13 February at 10 a.m. EST.

Navigating the online auction catalogue is easy and very intuitive. You can go through all the lots one by one (which is a real treat), or you can search for what you would like to see by different categories. However, if you are in New York City, you can also view the jewels at Christie’s New York, 20 Rockefeller Centre from February 7^th to 11^th.

I’ve spent the last few days happily browsing the online auction catalogue. Truth be told, I found every lot quite fascinating, but here are a few pearl jewelry lots that really spoke to me:

LOT 1: BULGARI CULTURED PEARL AND GOLD NECKLACE

Estimate: USD $5,000 – USD $7,000

A gorgeous Bulgari necklace comprising of 88 white cultured pearls in 18K yellow gold. The sculpted gold links are articulated and continue all the way around the necklace. I found the craftsman ship of this necklace to be beyond exquisite, but then what else is one to expect from Bulgari? The cultured pearls are white with great lustre and complement the satin finish of the polished gold links to perfection. This necklace has the BVLGARI signature along with the Italian assay mark. If you love fine jewelry and are choosing to make a statement, then this pearl necklace is definitely for you!

LOT 50: NATURAL PEARL AND DIAMOND PENDANT WITH GIA REPORT

Estimate: USD $4,000 – USD $6,000 

This is truly an outstanding natural pearl and diamonds pendant. Set in platinum topped gold, on a 14K white gold chain, the white drop shaped natural pearl is exceptional in its colour, shape and size! Thirty-five old-cut and single-cut diamonds surround the pearl as well as adorn the bow surmount of the pendant, giving it so much charm and beauty. This pendant comes with a report from the Gemological Institute of America, which states that the natural pearl is of saltwater environment. For anyone who really wants to have a unique piece of fine jewelry, this pendant will really be a great acquisition.

LOT 51: ANTIQUE DIAMOND AND PEARL NECKLACE

Estimate: USD $10,000 – USD $15,000

A lovely antique necklace in a garland motif with very fine and intricate details. This late 19th Century necklace is a beautiful example of the Belle Epoque Era jewelry style. The all white colours of this necklace have come about through eighteen lustrous pearls, fifteen old-cut diamonds and the mounting in platinum. This necklace comes with a fitted box from the Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Company and its craftsmanship is reminiscent of the finesse and grace of a bygone time.

LOT 134: CHANEL MATELASSE CULTURED PEARL AND DIAMOND EARRINGS

Estimate: USD $6,000 – USD $8,000

The iconic Chanel Matelasse cultured pearl and diamond earrings! The lattice motif and bombé form of these earrings is chic and so unforgettably Chanel. I love the sharp lustre of the perfectly round pearls and gradual change in their size as the lattice motif gets narrower. Diamonds on the gold lattice add brilliance and allure. These earrings have the © CHANEL signature along with the French gold assay mark. To find them at auction is remarkable but the best part is that LOT:135 is the matching Chanel Matelasse Cultured Pearl and Diamond Ring! For someone looking to acquire jewelry from the Chanel Matelasse collection, this is a great opportunity!

LOT 182: VERDURA MABÉ PEARL AND DIAMOND EARRINGS

Estimate: USD $4,000 – USD $6,000 

These Verdura pearl and diamond earrings remind me of their classic caged ear clips design. Beautiful white mabé pearls, diamond accents and polished 18k gold make these earrings so elegant. The outstanding craftsmanship of the caged design is classic Verdura. The size of the mabé pearls is approximately 18 mm in diameter, the pearls themselves are exceptional in their colour and overtones. These earrings have the VERDURA signature. A little whimsical but very eye catching, these pearl and diamond earrings are simply magnificent!

Overall, it has been a real treat looking through the lots on offer at the upcoming Christie’s Jewels Online Auction. The selection of pieces is well balanced and beautifully varied, each item having been chosen with care and precision. There are some exceptional, high value lots but there are also quite a few pieces with bidding prices well below $2000. While I am always looking for beautiful pearl jewelry, the auction includes so many non-pearl pieces of outstanding beauty and value, it really would be a shame to miss them.
