With three back to back Jewelry auctions, this week will probably be very exciting and busy at Bonhams’ Jewelry Department.
Knightsbridge Jewels July 15th, 2020, starting at 11:00 am BST
The Knightsbridge Jewels Auction is set for this coming Wednesday, and the catalogue does not disappoint. There are many beautiful lots and the ones that I chose to write about are more contemporary pieces, mostly unsigned, but featuring beautiful cultured pearls and diamonds.
Lot 42: A Cultured Pearl and Diamond Bangle. £1,500-2,000; CAD$ 2,600-3,400.
This is a hinged bangle with terminals of drop-baroque shaped cultured pearls in silvery white, pale gold and dark grey (with peacock overtones). The largest pearl measures an impressive 18.5×12.5mm and the pearls display a soft lustre. Set to the front with brilliant-cut diamonds, this bangle is striking and quite distinctive in design.
Lot 48: A Cultured Pearl and Diamond “Panthère” Necklace, Cartier. £5,000-7,000; CAD$ 8,600-12,000.
Decorated with black enamel spots and the quintessential green gemstone eyes, this realistically modeled pouncing panther is the centre piece of this necklace. A pavé-set brilliant cut diamond ball attached to a single strand of creamy white cultured pearls. The sinuous, sculptured look of the panther, modeled in gold, juxtaposed against a single strand of lustrous, round, cultured pearls, creates something extraordinary. This is a statement necklace, a true conversation starter!
Note: There is some enamel loss at the tail of the panther. The panther as well as the clasp are signed Cartier and this lot comes with the maker’s case as well as a certificate of authenticity.
Lot 85: A Pair of Emerald, Cultured Pearl and Gem-Set Pendant Earrings. 7,000-9,000; CAD$ 12,000-15,000.
These earring are nothing short of spectacular! Featuring pear shaped Columbian emeralds in a surround of rose-cut diamonds, these earrings are as eye catching as they are beautiful. Cultured pearls from a tassel of drops which are accented by rubies and rose-cut diamonds. These lotus motif of these earrings, a very traditional design in South Asian jewelry, has been showcased in these earrings to full effect. Remarkable and fabulously crafted.
Lot 221: A Pair of Cultured Pearl and Diamond Pendant Earrings. £ 8,000-12,000; CAD$ 14,000-21000.
Geometric design and articulated, this pair of earrings has an Art Deco feel to them. The grey-hued drop shaped cultured pearls with their slightly green and pink overtones provide an attractive focal point against the collet-set, vari-cut diamonds. The millegrain finish is beautiful and gives these earrings a more vintage feel.
There are other, equally beautiful pearl jewelry pieces on offer at Bonhams Knightsbridge Jewels Auction and they are worth checking out as well. The pearl jewelry coming up at Bonhams London Jewels auction is equally beautiful and features works of many renowned jewelry artists such as Boivin, Lacloches Freres and perhaps even Lalique and Vever!
Bonhams Knightsbridge Jewels auction ends on 15th July, 2020. So, if you have not checked it out as yet, please do so and then let me know, in the comments below, which lots won your heart 🙂
