Beautiful Pearl Jewelry at Christie’s Jewels Online April Auction

Christies’ Jewels Online auction is currently live and there are about 150 jewels on offer including pieces from renowned jewelers like Bulgari, Cartier, David Webb, Tiffany & Co., Van Cleef & Arpels and Verdura to name a few. Online bidding started on April 13^th and will continue until 24^th April.

The pearl jewelry on offer is lovely as expected and includes some remarkable pieces.

Here are the pieces I’m rooting for:

Lot 49: Cultured Pearl and Diamond Bracelet

Estimate: USD 2000 -USD 3000

This is a flexible cuff bracelet in 18 K gold adorned with white diamonds and three gorgeous golden cultured pearls (golden South Sea pearls in my estimation).  The craftsmanship of the bracelet is exquisite. Just the little details like the seamless way the pearls are set and the gold filigree work on the inner side of the bracelet, make it exceptional. The three pearls have medium to dark gold colour and beautiful, soft lustre. The pearls also seem to add another shade of gold to this 18K cuff bracelet. The pavé set diamonds highlight the beauty of the pearls in this bracelet. On the inner side of the bracelet, there are marks, including gold finesse marks (18K, 750) and possibly the maker’s marks. This bracelet caught my eye because it is very finely crafted and showcases the three golden pearls to perfection. I believe this bracelet will be a valuable addition to any jewelry lover’s collection.  

Lot 84: Tiffany & Co. Cultured Pearl and Diamond Earrings

Estimate: USD 3000 – USD 5000

Centring on one grey cultured pearl and one white these are a fabulous pair of earrings! There is something unique and fun about these earrings. The mismatch of the pearl colours and the concentric frame of white diamonds surrounding them is fascinating. The pearls are round, large and have good lustre. The grey pearl, with pink and slightly blue overtones is a great companion to the white pearl which also seems to be glowing from within. These earrings bear the TIFFANY & CO. signature and the ©IRIDPLAT mark for platinum metal finesse. I love these earrings because they promise so much. They are superbly crafted and versatile. I can easily see them go from day casual to evening elegant. But they also seem to have an interesting personality, the colour of the pearls, the surround of the diamonds, all speak to refined individuality. And of course, they are Tiffany & Co.

Lot 130: Mikimoto Cultured Pearl and Diamond Necklace

Estimate: USD 2000 – USD 3000

This is a triple strand of white cultured pearls necklace with a lovely diamond clasp in 18K yellow and white gold. From the shape and size of these pearls, it is safe to assume that these are Akoya pearls. Being a Mikimoto necklace, you can be sure that the pearls here are of the finest quality. Perfectly matched in colour and shape, their sharp lustre makes them quite attractive. The clasp bears the Mikimoto maker’s mark and a 750 gold finesse mark. What drew me to this necklace is the beauty of the Akoya pearls. Triple strands of perfectly matched Akoya pearls are true eye candy for pearl lovers. On top of that, this is a Mikimoto necklace and at auction!

Lot 143: Set of Cultured Pearl Jewelry

Estimate: USD 3000 – USD 5000

This set comprises of a necklace of white and gold cultured baroque shape pearls and seashell motif earrings also with white and gold baroque shape cultured pearls. The graduating baroque pearls appear to be South Sea pearls, given their lovely white and gold colours and size.  And what beautiful pearls they are!  Their baroque shapes are magnificent. Each pearl is distinct and unique, yet very much part of the whole look of this set. The pearls have a soft lustre, and several seem to change colour from gold to ivory or silvery white, which adds to their charm. The seashell motif earrings are exquisite, and this is another piece with two different coloured pearls for each earring. I found this set to be entrancing, the ocean-inspired, finely crafted earrings are perfect against the irregular baroque shapes of the pearls. The set can be worn together or separately, but its pieces will always stand out!

Lot 159: Tiffany & Co. Schlumberger Cultured Pearl and Diamond ‘Acorn’ Ring

Estimate: USD 3000 – USD 5000

This is a very interesting lot, not only because it has a Tiffany & Co. Schlumberger ring, but also because there is an almost similar accompanying ring with it. The crossover design of the ring terminates in white cultured pearls, accented with white diamonds, together making the acorn motif. The pearls from their appearance and size are possibly Akoya pearls and they are lovely. One ring carries the Tiffany & Co. Schlumberger signature. I was drawn to this lot because it is a Schlumberger piece and so very beautiful. The details and crafting of the ring are outstanding, but then that is to be expected. But the accompanying ring also kept bringing me back to this lot. To wear both rings together will be a statement move! I do understand that ring sizes can be an issue sometimes, but if these rings speak to you then, honestly, I think this lot should not be missed.
