Tessa Packard’s New Fine Jewellery Collection Takes us into the World of Colour, Fun in the Sun and Vintage Acrylic
Jewellery designer Tessa Packard really knows how to make a splash with her unique and eclectic jewellery pieces. In fact, that is literally what she has done with her brand new “Plastic Fantastic” Fine Jewellery collection. Think 1950s Florida-brilliant sunshine, pool parties, fancy cocktails. Think bright costume jewellery meets fine jewellery craftsmanship. Think precious gems and colours creating a smorgasbord of jewelled delights.
The “Plastic” in this collection comes from clear acrylic plastic or lucite, an alternative material that we don’t often see in fine jewellery. However, Tessa has brought it into our mainstream jewellery consciousness with her stunning designs. The “Plastic Fantastic” jewellery pieces have been made with coloured gemstones and precious metals paired with vintage Lucite pieces (recycled and unveiled in brand new designs) as well as homemade resin, which has been hand-crafted by Tessa herself.
This limited edition collection comprises of necklaces, earrings, bracelets and bangles as well as rings, with deliciously evocative names such as “Gum Ball” Earrings or “Sunny Sarasota” Necklace. Each piece has been crafted meticulously, truly embodying the dizzying flavour and style of the 1950s. Tessa’s choice of gemstones is scintillating- amethysts, tourmalines, lapis lazuli, turquoise, sapphires and agate, to name a few – gemstones that seemingly throb with colour and life. My own particular favourite piece is the one-of-a-kind, all white “Coco Gone Loco” pearl, gold, resin and brass drop earrings. I can almost visualise myself wearing these charmers, which can easily go from day cool to night chic.
If this collection is to have its own OST, I would vote for the 1950s classic “Tutti Frutti” by Little Richard…the sound, the verve, the energy, totally encapsulate what Tessa Packard wants us to feel about these glamourous, wildly beautiful jewellery pieces.
